Designed by Dane Richardson, founder and owner of Dane Design Australia, the clients brief was to be sympathetic to the surrounding area, echoed in it’s low design and far back position on the block. “This positioning is deliberate being partly driven by development conditions along this strip, and by the owner’s desire to be sure that their new home wasn’t over-scale or dominating the street,” Mr Richardson said. The house acts as a gallery and coupled with its raw concrete features, emits an artist’s hideaway vibe.
The consistent dark grey, cut-stone flooring in the living areas of the home is a perfect introduction into the chosen colour palette for the rest of the house. “The floors throughout are tiled all in natural stone, when combined with the teak ceilings, really compliment the finish of the formed concrete walls,” Tallwood Construction General Manager Alex Campbell explains.
The crisp white walls in the open-plan living area contrasts against the often brightly coloured eye-catching artwork. Amidst all the strong, geometric lines that dominate the interior of the house comes an alien-esque, fluid fire place that descends from the ceiling, dissecting the dining and living areas. The high ceilings are rimmed with glass that floods the room with light during the day and acts as windows to the stars at night.
